Art for Humanity has been serving the South African Art community
since 1988 when, as an ad-hoc committee called Artists for Human Rights
and subsequently as the Projects Committee of Artists for Human Rights
Trust, thy have engaged with cultural production specifically in the
visual arts, to promote human rights awareness regionally and among
the global community.
Art for Humanity has recently linked up with three organisations
that will collaborate on its upcoming project, ‘Women
Artists and Poets Advocating Childrens’ Rights’ -
humanitarian NGO’s Children First and the Advice Desk for the
Abused, as well as BAT Centre, an art and community development organisation.
They will help AfH to develop an endorsers and advocacy programme
and to provide the brief to the participating artists. As organisations
that have made it their priority to advocate the rights of the child,
Children First and the Advice Desk for the Abused, will both advise
the project committee on an expert level, whereas the BAT Centre will
assist with the selection of poets and artists.

Artists Helping Children is a non-profit charity dedicated to bringing
comfort to children in hospitals, clinics, and shelters by brightening
their environment with murals and other art. There are so many children
right now who must live on a daily basis, suffering, and always surrounded
by bleak, white walls. Their mission is to bring color and fun to
these children's lives by painting uplifting murals on institutional
walls, making the child’s visit much less stressful. By creating
an atmosphere of wonder, and by encouraging participation, kids will
be able to take their focus off of their pain and refocus their energy.
